Jose
Mourinho versus Pep Guardiola is more than a clash of personalities – it's a
conflict of styles, according to one of the
select
few to have played under both men, writes Mirror Football's David McDonnell.
Xabi
Alonso spent three seasons under Mourinho at Real Madrid and two with Guardiola
at Bayern Munich, and believes the pair's contrasting ways will make for a
fascinating duel at Old Trafford.
"It's
natural that people are going to be comparing them now they are at the
Manchester clubs," said Alonso.
"But
in many ways they're so similar. They're both winners who hate to lose. For
them they take losing personally – that's why they've been so successful.
"They're
both very hard working as well. Their success is not down to luck, they never
stop working, they give everything for the clubs they're coaching.
"Like
any great coaches, they are individuals as well. Pep is very clear on his
philosophy and how he wants the game to be played."
