The
Midlands champions look set to lose some of their star players in this
coming transfer window following their historic title win, and PFA
Player of the Season Mahrez is said to top a number of top clubs' wish
lists.
But it is north London side Arsenal who appear to show the most intent on signing the 25-year-old Algerian, as it was revealed Arsene
Wenger was making the winger his top summer target and would also allow
27-year-old Walcott to travel in the opposite direction.
It is understood that Gunners boss Wenger considered making a £400,000 swoop for the Leicester wide man back in January 2014 but rather battled to bring bigger and more established names to the Emirates.
The deal has a potential snag,
however, because it appears unlikely that England winger Walcott would
be interested in making the journey up the M1 to play at the King Power
Stadium.
For Arsenal, the move would certainly be welcomed. Mahrez would improve greatly on what has been a stuttered career for Walcott in London. Theo, who began his career at Southampton, is one of Arsenal's highest earners and after only penning a new contract last year, may be reluctant to leave the club.
These revelations come after a serious of rumours surrounding Mahrez's future in Leicester.
Earlier this month, Foxes' vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha reassured fans that the winger would remain at the club next season after the player's agent announced there was a 50/50 chance he would move away.
Srivaddhanaprabha, also known as 'Top', told the Daily Mirror: "They are good lads to speak to, they understand.
"Even Mahrez, he said: ‘don’t worry I want to stay.'
"We have no policy to sell the players and don’t have a problem with money.
"Next year we are going to play in the Champions League as well. All the players understand."
