Leicester have
completed the £13million signing of Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy.
The
24-year-old midfielder, who has been likened to Foxes' star N'golo Kante, joins
the Premier League champions after completing a medical on a trip to the club's
training ground last week.
Speaking
through the club's official Twitter account, Mendy said: 'I am very happy to
come to Leicester City. The team have just enjoyed a great season and it’s
excellent to be here.'
'I like the
Premier League and I follow every match. It’s fast and physical and I want to
impose myself on the league.'I know the coach, I know his mentality and I know
his philosophy.'
Mendy is
Claudio Ranieri's fourth signing so far this transfer window, as the Italian
attempts to prepare his side for life in the Champions League, following
Ron-Robert Zieler, Luis Hernandez and Raul Uche Rubio.
Claudio
Ranieri sees Mendy as a player to complement his midfield, rather than replace
Kante, and is another sign after Jamie Vardy’s new contract that the club are
determined to build on last season’s incredible success.
Ranieri’s side
fought off a late attempt from West Ham for Mendy and raised their initial
offer of £9.5m plus add-ons to £13m.
The
24-year-old was a key component of the Nice side that finished 11th in Ligue 1,
featuring in every league game.
